TPI - Trial Psychology Institute

Services

Trial Psychology Institute provides a broad array of trial and jury services to the country's top litigators:

Pre-Trial Strategy - Strategic planning that incorporates the juror's point of view into your case presentation. We work with you directly to identify case weaknesses and opportunities to overcome them.

Case Theme Development - Specification of case themes and theories. We help you clarify and simplify your presentation for maximum impact on juror perceptions, emotions, and thought processes.

Focus Groups - Focused interactivity with 12 to 15 sample jurors exposed to your base case presentation. We help you determine the value of your case through the eyes and ears of potential jurors. The experience can uncover promising case themes as well as case strengths and weaknesses.

Mock Trials - Controlled simulation featuring 2 to 4 jury panels screened demographically and geographically to match your potential jury pool on the day of trial. Panels are exposed to abbreviated case presentations from both sides, demonstrative aids, expert testimony, and attorney styles. Together, we observe and analyze multiple jury deliberations via closed circuit television, identifying attributes and attitudes empathetic to the opposing cases. An excellent exercise to fine-tune your case before the trial.

Attorney Coaching - Constructive analysis of attorney style in communicating with a jury from opening statement to closing argument. We help you deliver high-impact communication while maintaining your own particular style.

Jury Selection - Active voir dire participation involving critical analysis of prospective juror traits, behaviors, and responses. We will identify those jurors most favorable to your case. We help you define and implement strike strategy to effectively select favorable jurors and eliminate unfavorable jurors.

Voir Dire Training - Powerful information-gathering techniques for uncovering prospective juror bias and prejudice. We work with you to maximize your information-gathering effectiveness when voir dire time is limited.

Juror Questionnaire Development - Insightful psychological techniques for uncovering the true beliefs and critical attitudes that jurors bring into the courtroom with them. We help you develop and deploy an effective questionnaire and analysis system that pinpoints the unfavorable jurors you need to eliminate to gain an edge.

Witness Preparation - Powerful communication and behavioral tools for your witnesses, both expert and client, whether for deposition or trial testimony. A prepared witness is a more effective and credible witness for your jury case. We work directly with your witnesses to help them communicate effectively with the jury, avoid verbal and visual pitfalls, and prepare for a difficult cross-examination.

Demonstrative Aids Consulting - New ideas for new demonstrative aids and critical evaluation of existing demonstrative aids. The real power of any demonstrative aid comes not from just what you have to demonstrate, but also how you present it and how the juror audience receives it. We help you discover and create the most powerful way to present your demonstrative aids to jurors.

Shadow Juries - Employment of individuals similar to the selected jury to sit in the courtroom audience and provide daily, post-mortem opinions on the case as it unfolds. Based on the insights gained from the shadow jury as your case progresses, you can modify your case presentation to get the results you want. We recruit, coordinate, and manage the shadow jury for you. Each day, we interview the shadow jury together and discuss the resulting impact on your case presentation.

Post-trial Interviews - Critical questioning of jurors after the trial is over. The best feedback you will ever get about your case - and future cases - is from jurors who have actually experienced your case presentation. We do the interviewing for you and report back to you on what worked, what did not work, and what could have made all the difference in your case. An excellent way to continue honing your case presentation skills.
